Mani
lovingly welcomes Chando in Mumbai. A grieving Chando
is bewildered by her new surroundings. Mani introduces
her to her entire staff, including her company manager
Mr. Ansari and the mansion servant Chooha Chaube.
She further instructs Jalad to show Chando to her
room. On the way to the room , Jalad receives a
phone call from Kumkum. He talks rather affectionately
to the girl. Chando is confused and stands quietly
waiting for him. Mr. Ansari notices this. He asks
Mani whether she has informed Jalad regarding his
pre-arranged marital alliance with Chando. Mani
sternly replies Mr. Ansari, saying that she doesn’t
need to inform her son about the duties he knows
he must perform under any circumstance. She tells
him that even though Jalad may have been spoilt
at her hands, he would never say no to his mother
regarding his marriage, as he knows and understands
the relationship his mother shared with her best
friend Kanak.
Mani
leaves for office after assuring Chando that she
has a whole lot of servants in the mansion to take
care of her and also leaves a picture of Kanak with
her. Chando grieves holding her mother’s picture
in her hands. When Mani calls to check on her from
the office, Chooha Chaube informs her that Chando
hasn’t eaten a morsel of food. Mani comes
home to console Chando and explains to her that
she must make herself strong in order to face the
ups and downs of life. She exemplifies her own life,
telling Chando that it was Jalad’s responsibility
that urged her to live life despite the sad demise
of her own parents and husband. Mani finally manages
to feed Chando, asking her to concentrate on the
positive side of life. Chando promises to do so.
Jalad visits his friend Swayam’s house, who
tells him about what has been happening in college
while he was away. He cajoles Jalad to have a few
drinks with him. Late that evening a drunk Jalad
stumbles into the mansion. He accidentally stumbles
into Chando’s room, who mistakes him for a
thief and starts screaming, “Chor! Chor”!
The entire household is awakened by her screams.
Jalad is petrified that he will be caught in a drunken
state.
